The MI PA Foundation's
Annual Scholarship Awards
Total Awards by December 31, 2009: $67,500
Please
note that the University of Detroit and Western Michigan University
were the home to the first two Michigan PA Programs, opening their doors
in 1974. A scholarship program was started by the Michigan Academy of
Physician Assistants (MAPA) in the 1980's.
Our Foundation continued the tradition the year following its' approval
by
the Internal Revenue Service as a Public Charitable Foundation under
Section 403 (b). Grand
Valley State University, Central
Michigan University,
and Wayne State University started
their Programs in 1995.
When a PA Program
is not listed for any given year, it is because the Foundation did not
receive an application from a student
from that program for that year.
Multiple names following the
PA Program's name indicate an award was given
to more than one student from that program.

Kind Words From the Scholarship Award Recipients
"Thank you so much for the $1,000
grant...the check arrived along with a tuition bill I had no way to pay.
Words cannot express the relief and gratitude I experienced...I certainly
hope that some day I can help extend the same generosity to another student
that you extended to me."
Suzanne Boyd, 1994
"These scholarships truly help people
who are in dire need of money
...with this contribution (award), I will be able to continue with my
PA schooling...now I feel as though I can say that I will make a great
physician assistant."
Michael Johnson, 1995
"I would like to thank...the PA Foundation
and all the volunteers who helped to raise the scholarship money. It is
appreciated deeply and will go to good use! I would love to volunteer
in the future to help..."
Nancy Caillonette,1997
"As you may know, being a PA student
can be financially stressful. Many of us sacrifice 2 years of lost income
in order to pursue a physician assistant career. It also means taking
out Federal as well as other alternative loans in order to pay for tuition,
books, equipment, and university fees on top of living and transportation
expenses.
>
It is the generous donations to your foundation that help me as well as
my peers reach their academic and career goals. As I start into my clinical
year, I am comforted knowing my financial outlook is brighter. I am greatly
appreciative for the financial gift."
Jeannie Schrage, 1998
I was a recipient of the MPAF scholarship this year. I was very honored
to be presented with this award. I appreciate all the practicing PA's
that donated to this scholarship. This honor relieved a lot of finanical
pressure during my father's battle with cancer and allowed me to be with
him and still succeed with my education. Once again, I thank all who contributed
to this award.
DeeAnna Holbrook, 2009
I would like to thank you for the generous
scholarships that you provide for PA students. I am truly blessed to have
been one of the selected students this year. I can guarantee that your
hard-earned donation will go to a good cause, and I look forward to the
day when I have extra money to give and can donate back to students who
need a little extra help. That day seems to be getting closer and closer!
Thank you again, I really appreciate it!
Elizabeth Eastman, 2010
Please
note that Mercy College of Detroit
(later University
of Detroit Mercy)
and Western Michigan University began their PA Programs in 1972,
while Grand
Valley State University, Central
Michigan University,
and Wayne State University stared
their Programs in 1995.
When
a PA Program is not listed for any given year,
it indicates that the Foundation did not receive
an application from a student from that Program.
